Dental Hygienist Appointment

Dental hygiene appointments in Maidenhead

Good oral hygiene is fundamental to having healthy teeth and gums. Hygienist treatment at Woodlands Dental & Implant Centre involves a thorough assessment of the health of your teeth and gums and the gentle removal of any stubborn plaque or tartar build-up around the teeth and below the gum line that brushing alone cannot always remove. If left unchecked plaque and tartar can cause significant damage and result in problems associated with tooth decay and gum disease.

Our hygienists not only care for your periodontal and gum condition by helping you to maintain a healthy mouth. They will also expertly clean your teeth and discuss oral health products that will help you maintain a good oral hygiene routine at home.

As well as having regular checkups by your dentist, routine visits to the dental hygienist are essential for maintaining a good level of oral hygiene and make complex treatment in the future less likely. We encourage our patients to see the hygienist regularly, usually every six months. Patients with known periodontal conditions and heavy smokers are advised to see the hygienist every three months. For any gum diseases, our hygienist can refer our patients to our periodontist.

Regular visits to the hygienist are vital to maintain good oral health and are an important supplement to regular check ups. Having made an assessment of your condition the hygienist will recommend an appropriate treatment interval.

Of course our dentists are fully qualified in all aspects of oral hygiene, but our hygienists have undergone particular training in this area, meaning they focus on ensuring plaque and tartar are removed from both on the teeth themselves and from below the gum line where most damage can be caused.

Maintaining a rigorous cleaning programme at home is vital if you want to minimize hygienist appointments. Our hygienist will give you advice and tips not only about how to clean your teeth, but also about diet and general lifestyle.
